If you’re looking for the perfect morning or afternoon snack, my Banana Mango Spinach Smoothie is just for you! With summertime in full effect, I am always looking for ways to cool down from this summer heat. It is creamy, sweet and refreshing!
I love smoothies for so many reasons but one thing I love for sure about them is the ability you have to load them up with not only fruits and veggies, but also protein and other superfoods! This is one way that I can ensure the little man and I are getting a very nutrient dense snack, especially on those days when the little guy is not wanting to eat any many or any veggies for that matter (which stresses this momma out and I’m sure many other momma’s out there too)! Not only does he love to drink them, but I certainly feel better knowing its a nutrient packed snack.
For this recipe, I decided to use both mango and banana for my fruit, a heaping portion of spinach for my greens, chia seeds and almond milk. I went with mango because they are super delicious and because they are in season right now (I prefer buying produce in season because they are cheaper and they taste better)! I used bananas (frozen) for a few reasons: 1. Because they are pretty much a smoothie staple in my house 2. They add the perfect creaminess 3. They add a ton of sweetness to mask those greens. Next, I choose spinach because of its mild flavor. I love adding greens to a smoothie because it really is the easiest way to increase your veggies for the day. Keep in mind you can and should alternate your veggies (kale would work here as well). Another ingredient I like to add are chia seeds (or you can use flax or hemp seeds). They are considered a superfood because they are loaded with a ton of nutrients such as omega 3’s, protein, and fiber (just to name a few). To make this a more complete meal, you can add in additional protein of your choosing, either a scoop of your favorite protein powder (I would omit this if this is for your little one), a scoop of your favorite nut butter, or your favorite plain yogurt. Lastly, you can use any liquid you prefer. We choose to use unsweetened almond milk because it is one of your faves!
